Jet Ski FAQ

Most Asked Question (FAQ).... How do I maintain my jet ski?

Before getting on a jet ski:

  • Take a boater safety course – Florida law requires that anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 to either have successfully completed a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) approved boating education course or have passed a course equivalency or temporary certificate examination and have in their possession a boating education ID card and a photo identification card before operating a vessel with a motor of 10 HP or more.
  • Know the laws of your area regarding jet skis.
  • Read the owner’s manual. Be familiar with the vessel that you are riding.
  • Check the weather forecast.
  • Check fuel and fluid levels. Make sure you have enough gas to get home.
  • Check your vessel for loose wires, damage, etc… before departure.
  • Charge your battery.
  • Ventilate your engine compartment by opening it.

Before starting the jet ski:

  • Open up the seat before starting the engine. Check for oil, gas, or any fluid in the hull. Examine hoses and clamps and check for the smell of fuel. DO NOT START THE ENGINE IF A FUEL SMELL IS PRESENT.
  • Start engine while still on land, let run for about 10-20 sec. to warm up the engine.
  • Wear your life vest.
  • Attach the lanyard to your vest as this will act as the kill switch in the event you fall off.

While riding:

  • Follow all laws and owner’s manual instructions regarding proper care of your jet ski.
  • Run your PWC in idle speed for 5 – 10 minutes.
  • Check engine compartment a few times a day for water.
  • At all times be alert and aware of other people, vessels, and animals.

After riding:

  • Once on land start your jet ski for a few moments to blow out any debris and/or water left inside.
  • Drain the hull.
  • Flush you ski out as soon as possible after riding in salt water. (Please follow the instructions provided in the owner’s manual)
  • Leave the seat off to prevent mold.
  • Wash your ski, trailer, and engine to remove salt water.
  • Always have maintenance done on a timely basis as recommended by your owner’s manual.
  • We recommend using a battery tender to keep your battery in good condition during storage.
This is a partial list of recommendations to keep you safe on the water. This is not a complete list and as always you should follow your owner’s manual for all care and maintenance of your pwc as well as your state laws. Absolute Performance makes no guarantees as to your safety or the condition of your jetski / pwc by following these recommendations to FAQ.

Do you do pre-buy inspections of jet skis?

Yes, in fact we highly recommend you have pre-buy inspections done. Jet Skis and Jet Boats can both have hidden signs of damage that aren’t visible upon first glance. We can also help you diagnose and fix repair issues that may be found during the inspection if you choose to buy anyway.

How should I store my jet ski?

When jet skis and or jet boats are left unattended for long periods of time they often have mildew problems, corrosion issues, and/or mechanical failure. We can’t tell you how many times customers have gone back up north or didn’t run the ski or boat during the winter only to find that come summer they are in need of major repairs. For this reason we recommend dry storage for anyone not using their PWC on a regular basis.

Here are a few reasons to dry store your jet ski and/or boat:

  • The harsh Florida sun and salt water can quickly damage a neglected ski.
  • HOA rules and or county code enforcement prevents you from storing vessels at your home.
  • Seasonal riders can save thousands of dollars in repair services.
  • Storing your jet ski or boat in our secured facility greatly reduces the risk of theft and/or vandalism.
